Under the creative directorship of Molly Jane Sturges
Humans have always been driven to find answers for life’s struggles. In ancient days, people went to oracles, shamans or elders for guidance, but today, we have each other. Today we need to access our wisdom together. Waking the Oracle is here to guide communities through interactive, participatory workshops and musical story performances to address the toughest of questions.
Partly based on mythical elements, Waking the Oracle takes unique struggles a community has and transforms them into a musical or theatrical performance collectively created by all members of a community. With the help of “Oracle Helpers,” the audience is guided through a story eventually identifying the right questions and/or coming to a resolution of an issue. Gathered around a lightwell, the audience and performers will share stories and exchange wisdom as it has been done for thousands of years.
We’re in This Together.
The adaptability of the project to suit a community’s point of view provides a framework, but every Waking the Oracle project will have:

Music and storytelling have the ability to be transformative. Whether a person is being enveloped by creative outlets like music, storytelling or poetry or expressing themselves through it the power of creative expression has unimaginable potential to affect change. Stories that Heal harnesses that power to raise awareness and engage in conversation around mental health challenges. This initiative welcomes those to share their healing journeys with the hope of touching those who might be experiencing something similar.
The Stories that Heal project is developed in a collaborative environment engaging a community across generational gaps to address trauma, recovery and community resiliency. The timeline of the program often spans six weeks or longer with family-friendly workshops and pop-up performances intermingled with the production. At the root of it all, healing is the primary focus to support communities as they address critical issues such as suicide prevention, addiction recovery, generational trauma, systemic trauma and more.
Let’s Heal Together.
Drawing on a community’s specific need, Stories That Heal events will include:
The peaks and valleys of a person’s and community’s history are fascinating stories to behold and be celebrated. We consider each story a unique facet or “opus” of a person’s life or community’s history. Opus: is a collaborative project that gathers the stories of people and brings them to life with original musical works performed by local artists, youth and community members.
The healing element of Opus: is felt throughout the entire process. From the story- gathering phase to the intergenerational collaboration of music development and ultimately the immersive performance, everyone from the performers to the audience is touched by the stories told. The immersive nature of the final performance where all five senses will be stimulated creates a lasting effect promoting sustained change, leaving a message for future generations.
